Dental Assistant (EF)

Provides chair side assistance to dental officers and specialist in all aspects and specialties of dentistry including restorative, endodontic, periodontics, prosthodontics, maxillofacial prosthodontics, oral and maxilla facial surgery as well as general dentistry in an outpatient setting. Restores teeth prepared by dentist and performs other reversible intra-oral procedures. As directed by dentist removes sutures, applies topical anesthesia, 11 desensitizing agents, medications and surgical gauze following extractions, and applies and removes periodontal dressings. Prepares operatives for patient care and prepares patients for treatment. Educates patients in brushing and flossing techniques, care of prosthodontics appliances, and common causes of tooth decay. Provides post-treatment instructions to patient as outlined by dentist. Provides routine maintenance on dental equipment and instruments. Cleans, disinfects, and sterilizes instruments, equipment, and surfaces. Prepares sterile trays, packs, sutures, etc. Properly stores and maintains adequate supplies for the dental department. Utilizes computerized dental patient records systems for scheduling, dental record charting and making/completing dental progress notes while complying with medical release and privacy requirements. To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Individual Occupational Requirements:
Public Law 97-35 requires that persons who administer radiologic procedures meet the credentialing standards in 42 CFR Part 75. Essentially, they must (l) have successfully completed an educational program that meets or exceeds the standards described in that regulation, and is accredited by an organization recognized by the Department of Education, and (2) be certified as dental radiographers. In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM

GS-02, Dental Assistant:

OR Successful completion of practical nurse training approved by the appropriate State, territory, or District of Columbia accrediting body. Your specialized experience may have been experience in dental assistance to general or specialized dentistry, dental assistant (expanded function) work, or any combination of these appropriate to the position being filled. 6 months of general experience AND 6 months of specialized experience. Specialized experience include Clean, polish and oil equipment. Clean and sharpen instruments; sterilize instruments using autoclave and dryclave techniques. Prepare sterile trays, packs, sutures, etc. Schedule and route patients for services as required. Receive and prepare patients for treatment such as routine restoration. Lay out instruments and materials needed for treatment. Provide chairside assistance during oral examinations and restorative treatments. Operate oral evacuator and suction tip to keep area of operation clear. Retract tissue, cheek and tongue. Relay to patient posttreatment instructions from dentist. OR Successful completion of a 2-year dental assistant program or completed a 2year dental hygiene program accredited by the American Dental Association's Commission on Accreditation which included at least 12 semester hours of courses such as radiation physics; radiation biology; radiation health, safety and protection; x-ray films and radiographic film quality, radiographic techniques; darkroom and processing techniques; and film mounting. OR A combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. The total percentage equals at least 100 percent to qualify for this GS-4 grade level. GS-05, Dental Assistant:

OR 1 year of specialized experience that has equipped me with the particular knowledge skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This specialized experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-04 level in the Federal service as described in the vacancy announcement. Examples include:
Receive patients and schedules appointments. Record information related to medical history of patient. When required route patient for medical tests and services. Chart examination and treatment information as relayed by dentist on patient records. Record information as directed by dentist on prescriptions and a variety of forms related to dental care for signature of dentist. Prepare and arrange all instruments and materials needed for each treatment. Prepare patient and operatory, Assist dentist at chair side as anticipated or required in all phases of general dentistry. Pass instruments and materials to and retrieve them from the dentist. Keep area of operation clear using high speed evacuator, suction tip and irrigation, Retract tissue, tongue and cheek. In surgical procedures maintain aseptic condition, stabilize tissue for dentist and cut sutures. Keep alert to condition of patient during treatment for signs of fainting, shock, or other distress. Relay to patient instructions from dentist for post treatment care. Operate dental X-ray equipment to take intra and extra-oral radiographs. Develop and finish film. OR Successful completion of a full 4 year course of study in dental assistant or dental hygiene which included at least 24 semester hours in courses such as radiation physics; radiation biology; radiation health, safety and protection; x-ray films and radiographic film quality, radiographic techniques; darkroom and processing techniques; and film mounting. OR A combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. The total percentage equals at least 100 percent to qualify for this GS-05 grade level. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements:
Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
